The 2012 gardening season produced one more giant specimen worth blogging about: a beautiful purple top rutabaga. After peeling it still weighed in at almost 3 pounds. And surprisingly, taste and texture were excellent, without a hint of pith or bitterness.
It’s been a good year for root vegetables in general. In addition to rutabagas, we also got really nice celeriac, carrots, and beetroots. And since temperatures never drop much below freezing in Seattle, they can stay in the ground until you’re ready to process them. Now that’s what I call fresh!
That’s a rutabaga? Oh my gosh, I thought it was a mango! Beautiful. I feel lucky with our roots in the PNW, too. Glad to find your blog!
