Today we made our first foray into home-roasting. And with some very special beans too: Rolf and Renate brought them back from their recent trip to Yemen.
The tools: a $30 heatgun, a steel mixing bowl, a colander, a wooden spoon. The process is very nicely explained on http://www.homeroaster.com/heatgun.html.
Everything went smoothly, even though it did take about 15-20 minutes to roast 3 cups of green beans, yielding 1 pound of roast. Of course, the proof is in the pudding – or rather the cupping. Check back later to see if it tastes as good as it looks.
