Temperatures were again a frigid 25F this morning – all the more reason to make plans for some great summer bicycle trips. Originally, we were planning to do RAW. It’s a great event, put on annually by the Seattle Cascade Bicycle Club. I’ve done it twice already, in 2007 and 2008; it would have been the first time for Wendy.
Taking a closer look at this year’s route though, we decided against it – the required bus ride to get there and back again is just too much of a hassle. And rather pricey too. Instead, we resolved to strike out on our own and be a bit more adventurous by planning a week-long cycling and camping tour. The route will closely follow the Cycle Oregon 2008 tour, which should assure us of beautiful landscape and low traffic roads.
We’ve already booked camping spots (and none too soon – we barely got into the Wallowa Lake camp site) and a couple of quaint B&Bs along the way, so we’re definitely committed. We’ve also acquired a cool new piece of cycling equipment to haul our camping gear: a Burley Nomad bike trailer. I can’t wait for the weather to improve to take it out for a test ride.
No, that’s not me in the picture; though I do plan on using the trailer for groceries and other things, besides camping.
