Garden Goats

These cute goats are visitors in our neighbors’ yard. Over the years it had been completely taken over by blackberry vines. The North-West blackberry is a very impressive plant: they can grow 30 feet in a season, bristling with sharp thorns, and almost impossible to kill … but they are no match for goats. These 3 little fellows have made short work of the blackberry jungle. They don’t actually eat the big branches – just the leaves – but once they are done it is much easier to cut up and remove the remainders. Just a few more days and the job will be done.

The goats have also been quite the neighborhood attraction. There’s been a steady stream of children coming over to see the unusual sight and pet the very friendly animals.
