Canning Season

IMG_4475Despite the terribly cold, wet spring and early summer we had a decent harvest from our garden. Of course most of it ripens all at once, so we’ve spent some late nights cleaning, chopping, cooking, and canning. We’d hate to see any go to waste; and it’s extremely satisfying to contemplate the gleaming jars of goodies arrayed on the shelves.

We’ve run out more than once to buy yet another case of glass jars. The list on our kitchen chalkboard is getting longer all the time. Hopefully it’ll also remind us to draw on our stores throughout the winter – we finished the last of the 2009 cans not too long ago (it was still delicious though).
