We first encountered the wild parrots of Seward Park in 2007: they visited our garden to eat some seeds from our sunflowers. We didn’t see them for a long time after that. Indeed, we had heard that the flock had dwindled and perhaps even completely disappeared. But this year we heard their familiar raucous calls on several occasions. And finally this month they came back to our garden. Was it because of our bumper crop of sunflowers this year? Who knows – but it’s exciting to see this beautiful bird is still at home in our neighborhood.
