Mason Bee Stats

The mason bees are busily capping tubes of pollen and brood, in a race to secure the next generation before they come to the end of their short adult lifespan around the end of May. It’s fun to keep track of some statistics and project how many bees we’re likely to have next year. If the weather isn’t too bad, we should see a substantial increase of our population.

  • Overwintered cocoons: 70
  • Hatched: 55
  • Hatch rate: 78%
  • Current capped tubes: 26
  • Projected total tubes: 70
  • Projected cocoons: 250
